The purpose of this letter is to recommend the services of Paul Blair, Get a Grip, for future terrazzo work. Paul and his crew installed epoxy terrazzo at the new Sissonville Middle School in Sissonville, WV. The floor layout for this project was very abstract and artistic in design. Paul and his employees had the layout underway within an hour of being on the job and layout was complete within several hours. The tedious placement of the divider strips was completed to perfection. I literally cannot find a place that varies from the contract drawing, nor are there any gaps or misalignments. The placement, grinding, and polishing of the floor went exactly as Paul and I had discussed. Our schedule was met and the quality was excellent. The floor has become the focus of this building.
Paul and his employees are very accommodating, professional, and proud of their finished product. It was a pleasure to work with them and I look forward to completing more projects with Get a Grip in the future.

The Virginia Department of Transportation is in near completion a $20 million capital improvement campaign to 3 safety rest areas and welcome centers around the Commonwealth. As a component of this capital improvement effort, during the fall of 2007, VDOT’s general contractors for the above referenced projects chose Get a Grip (subcontractor to VDOT) to install terrazzo flooring in extremely intricate patterns at 2 of our 41 most visited interstate facilities around the Commonwealth. Our average annual visitation at all facilities is over 40 million. On a peak travel day, over 11,000 visitors stop at our Fredericksburg facility alone.
On behalf of VDOT, I served as the owner and project manager delegated authority on these projects. In my opinion, Get a Grip ’s performance and work product was exceptional. Get a Grip ’s technical skills and abilities, attention to detail, and aggressive cradle-to-grave work ethic far exceeded my expectations. The intricate designs and curves on our intricate compass roses (Fredericksburg and Winchester) and curves throughout every space on the Fredericksburg project (to include floor curves extending through the vertical cove base) were completed by Get a Grip in precise compliance with the plans and specifications. In addition, where the sub-flooring (installed by other contractors) and the plans and specifications contained very critical errors and omissions, which would have likely resulted in failures of the high-performance / extended life cycle of the terrazzo floor, Get a Grip notified the owner of the potential concerns prior to proceeding and offered options for corrections, which enabled VDOT to quickly authorize significant corrective actions to the final installed design and finished floor. These corrections were made at no cost to VDOT.
